Winters always ring in the season for fairs and festivals in New Delhi. A yearly must visit for many residents has been the DCWA & Diplomatic Community Bazaar, this time on the lawns of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.
With 8,000 attending through the day, the bazaar kept its promise of vibrancy, music, aromas and the works. It brought together people of all ages for a memorable experience that is as joyful as it is meaningful. With stalls from several countries (58 countries, 125 stalls, 15 food stalls) and numerous Indian stalls together showcasing global cultures, handicrafts and cuisines, cultural performances light up the stage. A perfect way to enjoy a lively day out — all while supporting a greater cause. All proceeds from the fair go to charity, making every moment spent here even more impactful.
The Bazaar was organized under the leadership of the Bazaar Team, Executive Committee, with Mrs. Maha Buftain, spouse of the Ambassador of Kuwait, serving as President. Coordinated by Chairpersons Patricia López Jaramillo, spouse of the Ambassador of Colombia, and Lusine Ter-Hovhannisyan, spouse of the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia, this year marked a historic first—the participation of SHOM (Spouses of Heads of Mission).
Shop, eat, and discover
Food lovers were spoiled for choice. Participating countries put out their signature dishes with much fanfare. Popular eateries from Delhi catered to a packed house throughout the day. Dessert carts and multiple located bars ensured you never had to wait too long.
Beyond food, the fair featured a bustling bazaar where visitors shopped for handcrafted goods, clothes, accessories, décor, and cultural items. These stalls showcased both local creativity and international craftsmanship.
Entertainment for All Ages
The stage was alive, through the day, with cultural performances and live music. Traditional dances in national costumes caught everyone’s eye. People could be seen dancing and enjoying well into late evening. The fair also had a dedicated kids’ zone, complete with games, activities, and fun workshops to keep the little ones amused.
A celebration that gives back
What sets this bazaar apart is its purpose. Every ticket, every stall sale, all sales from DCWA run stalls go to charity. DCWA with seven decades of service and impact is a dynamic organisation of nearly 350 members. DCWA’s pride is its Medical Centre in Zamrudpur, New Delhi, staffed by a committed team of doctors across multiple specialities and treating an average of 70,000 patients each year. Equally impactful is the DCWA Learning Centre, which supports around 120 children, including the less privileged and differently-abled. Funds raised from the Bazaar directly support DCWA’s medical, educational, and community programmes—strengthening its enduring promise to heal, empower, and uplift those who need it most.
Make sure you keep a lookout for next year’s fair and feel free to visit the medical centre. Explore the wonderful work being done by the team and contribute and volunteer to help keep the initiative thriving.
